166-Upper-Richmond-Road

London

This scheme comprises a seven-storey mixed use building with five two-bedroom flats and two floors of office space, in Putney. The façade is of grey brick with cast stone details, detailed richly to create variety and movement with subtle expression of volumes. Bricks either side of the windows suggest both shutters and piers.

At each level, the windows and balconies are treated slightly differently according to their distance from the street below. In contrast to much contemporary housing, this scheme offers richness to the street, suggesting the conviviality of urban living rather than being detailed to have its brickwork appear monolithic with the residents reduced to termites. The project has now received planning consent.
